23/8/22 - Lava & Lighting


Lava

To begin I added the lava as a sprite with a box collider. I then added check points so that the lava had a place to teleport  the player to on entry. The check point is stored as a variable in the cubes player manager. To make the check point I opened up paint 3D and made a pole and various flags for all the cubes. I animated it so that when a player interacts with the checkpoint it shows the flag rising to position.

Lighting

To improve the overall ascetic of the game I re did the lighting. First I imported and set-up URP for 2D. I then changed all the sprite materials to lit. I added bloom for post processing and then point lights on different places. Whilst converting to the URP unity messed up my tile map and its sprites, which was a giant set back and has only ever happened to me in unity 2022.2 which is why from now on im sticking to 2019. I now need to waste so much time recreating everything as it has now broken my tile set.


After painstakingly fixing everything I added lights to the lava, players and checkpoints. I then added some bloom in postprocessing and some environmental lights.
