Brackeys Game Jam

This is my submission to the 2022 brackeys game jam.  It was  solely developed  by me in  my free time after school, spent ages making it and hope you enjoy. My game is strategy 2D platformer where you use multiple characters to progress through the levels. Each character has unique traits eg. Double Jump or Wall Stick, be careful how you complete the levels as each character has to complete the level for it to be useable in the next one. Your goal is to reach the end of the game and bring light to this dull land.

I am always looking to improve so I please request that you write a comment on this page with constructive criticism that I can take into hand for future projects and jams. Also note that I have prioritised school derived grade exams over this project and it may not be up to my normal stand / less polished.

If you are interested in the development process of the game then I recommend you read the dev logs. I tried to keep these as detailed as possible but they were not my priority, I mainly wrote into them whilst Unity felt like taking forever to import assets.

Note: I added my own twist to the game jam and tried to make the code run from as less scripts as possible as usually I have a load of scripts in my main projects and wanted to break way from that behaviour.

Known Bugs:

  1. Cubes Glitch together when level loads (5 onwards). Fix: Press R to respawn cubes


The game name Cubemunity comes from the combination of cube and community.

I found this game really fun! I love that you kept the mechanics simple so that you could focus on content. Maybe I'll try that in my next jam!

Also really liked the combination of the different cube's powers.

As a feedback, I'd recommend making sure there's enough visual clues as to where you need to go. In level 3, for example, it took me a long time to figure out there were platforms high above that led to the plate.

I'd also move in favor of removing the necessity of holding X when finishing a stage to keep playing with the other cubes, and just have that be the default behavior.

But other than that, I really enjoyed it!

Yeah I need to refactor the camera the stage completion. Thanks for playing and glad that you enjoyed it.

I enjoyed this game a lot, I thought the mechanics were great & the music was good (although I couldn't make it past level 3 because I couldn't find the pressure plate..

There is  the walkthroughs, but I am glad you enjoyed it. HINT: The plate was above the door, use the black cube to go up instead of down
